The challenge

A fuel station is chosen seconds before the turn, usually by a driver already moving. The brand has to survive at distance, at speed and at night, then work again at arm's length on a pump, a cooler and an attendant's shoulder.

Apec is one of the four largest oil and gas companies in Lebanon, operating a national station network. The scope was a full brand programme — identity, complete guidelines and the physical station experience — documented so that every build, supplier and franchise applies it the same way without supervision.

The insight

One red, one gesture. A script mark with enough character to be recognised as a silhouette on a pylon, and simple enough to be stitched, moulded and wrapped without redrawing it.

At national scale, consistency is the real design problem. The identity is executed by contractors, signage fabricators, uniform suppliers and fleet wrappers who never meet each other, so the system has to survive being applied by people with no access to the designer.

The strategy

The architecture carries the identity. Canopy, pylon and fascia were treated as the primary brand asset rather than a place to apply a logo, so the station reads as Apec before a single word is legible.

Everything the driver meets after the turn — entrance and exit wayfinding, lube-change bay, convenience units, attendant uniform — was designed as one continuous system in Arabic and English.

The whole programme was codified into brand guidelines: construction and clearance rules, bilingual type and colour specifications, signage and livery artwork, and application standards for every supplier in the chain.
